The school environment, including the canteen, is an ideal setting to educate our students about healthy food choices and physical activities. The school canteen is an extension of the school by supporting the work of staff and parents in teaching students about healthy food choices – for example, Crunch & Sip and the 'Live Life Well @ School' Program.

Our canteen aims are to:

  • provide an enjoyable, nutritious and attractively presented selection of foods and drinks at reasonable prices that meet the 'Fresh Tastes ' guidelines;
  • use fresh produce (seasonally) from the school vegetable garden 'The Patch'; and
  • demonstrate a high standard of hygiene in relation to the preparation, storage and serving of food at the canteen.

The canteen is often the first setting where a child practises money and negotiating purchasing skills. The students are encouraged to use this facility and are welcomed and assisted in making the canteen an enjoyable experience.

The canteen menu is revised annually, and a new price list is sent home at the beginning of each year. The canteen endeavours to keep prices reasonable and affordable.

ORDERING LUNCH

Lunch Bag Orders

Please print your child’s NAME and CLASS clearly on a lunch bag. Orders should be placed in lunch tubs inside your child’s classroom before the commencement of lessons.

If you do not have a lunch bag, please:

  • Write the order on an envelope;
  • Enclose money in the envelope; and
  • A lunch bag will be provided at an additional cost of 10 cents per bag.

Correct money should be enclosed (if possible). Please do not send large amounts of money with your child.

VOLUNTEERING

The canteen operation and finance responsibilities fall under the school’s jurisdiction.

Parents are warmly invited to assist in the canteen on Thursdays and Fridays and we value this support.

Volunteers will first need to complete our Working With Children Check (WWCC) process – information and forms can be found on the CEDoW website. The school can assist parent volunteers with this process. Should you be able to volunteer, please complete the appropriate form/s and email canteen@sccdow.catholic.edu.au or contact the school office.

If you are rostered on to help on a day and can’t make it, please try to find a replacement, advise the school office or one of the canteen committee members.

St Columbkille's and the canteen committee thank you for all your help and dedication. We could not offer this valuable service to the students without your help. We hope you enjoy volunteering with us. Thank you!
